Notes from the Dioxin Education Committee Meeting – February 18, 2026

The Dioxin Education Committee executive board met last Wednesday, February 18th to set our course going forward. Linda Draper, Don Noble, Patrizia Hironimus, and I were present.

We decided on the following:

  1. We will set up our own website so we can post information about our ongoing fight to stop the biomass movement in South Oroville. This will include all the reasons to oppose this environmentally dangerous energy producing method. It will also give us a vehicle to use to educate the public about the dangers of burning materials by operating biomass plants. This will highlight the dangers of dioxins, cancer, water pollution, and airborne pollutants.
  2. We will pursue a non-profit status, or find other environmental organizations who can oversee our efforts who already have a non-profit status.
  3. We will explore ways to raise the funds necessary to employ an environmental lawyer to challenge the efforts by the city and local business owners to bring biomass to our environmentally disadvantaged community.
  4. We will establish a working group that will meet regularly to move our efforts forward. If you would like to be a part of this working group, please respond to this email and I will add to that group. We will be meeting monthly to check in with each other and receive updates on our progress. I will send out updates to this general group.
  5. We will mobilize a general group meeting with everyone on this list when the time comes for a town hall, a demonstration, or some other type of civic engagement.

Our next meeting with our newly formed working group will be on Wednesday, March 18th at 4 pm.

Thank you all for continuing to support our efforts to stop the biomass movement in Oroville.

Sincerely,
Bill Bynum
Secretary for the Dioxin Education Committee
