The Sierra Club (Blue Oak Group)
As of February 2026, the Executive Committee of the Sierra Club Blue Oak Group has officially moved to support the DEC. The Sierra Club is the nation’s most enduring environmental organization, and they are clear: Forest biomass is not clean or renewable energy.
- The Position: “Biomass is a dirty energy that pollutes communities and threatens native biodiversity.”
- The Warning: The Sierra Club identifies biomass as an “expensive, dirty relic” that relies on industry misinformation and taxpayer money to survive.
- The Solidarity: Through the Blue Oak Group, the DEC is linked to a statewide network including StopClearcuttingCA, the Motherlode Chapter, and Feather River Action.

The Biochar Coalition
The Biochar Coalition is a grassroots organization that has maintained its original ethics and morals in the face of industrial “greenwashing.” They have joined the DEC as official partners to protect sensitive and underrepresented communities.
- The Mission: To act as a Community Guardian, sending a clear message to big business: if you try “anything funky” in our county, you will face a massive hurdle of organized resistance.
- The Solution: The Coalition advocates for original, ethical biochar production as a truly sustainable alternative to the “saviors” of big industry who leave a trail of pollution in their wake.

The Center for Biological Diversity
Represented by Shaye Wolf, PhD (Climate Science Director), the Center provides the DEC with the rigorous scientific backing needed to challenge BREI’s claims.
- The Science: Dr. Wolf’s 2026 research confirms that biomass power is more climate-polluting at the smokestack than coal.
- The Economic Reality: The Center is actively working at the CPUC level to end the BioMAT subsidies that force Californians to pay “exorbitant costs”—often four times the average—for dirty energy.
