Chico ER: Oroville drops power-sales plan

The Chico Enterprise-Record provided coverage of the July 21, 2026 Oroville City Council meeting. In addition to other topics covered, the ER reports that “Oroville’s plan to sell power directly to businesses won’t save the city money”:

“If we use their lines, then we pay them for using their lines. If we take their customers away from them, then we pay them for the loss of income from those from those customers,” Piatt said. “So, in both of those instances, when we put everything together, our cost of energy and the cost of PG&E, paying them for what they get, then it’s it doesn’t pencil out. It doesn’t provide a savings for those customers in any sort of manner that really makes sense to take the risk.”
